straight pipe question

just wondering if running my truck straight piped would hurt it or make it run like crap? its a 1979 350 4 barrel 4 bolt main with an edelbrock manifold and and edelbrock 600cfm carb. Also how would it sound?

The annoying noise it will make wont be worth the slight power gain it may or may not get. A good muffler can make one sound much better than straight piped ever will, and your neighbors will thank you. Straight pipes is for open header race vehicles.
