Im in search of a new one and have a few questions....

I thought I read somewhere that the 2WD box can be used on a 4WD? Which makes some sense because ORD only lists 2WD boxes on their web site, but why not 4WD? Goes with crossover too I think. Other vendors have both.

Summit was like $350-$400, screw that, ORD wasnt much better, there is certain stuff I wont get from LMC - a steering box is one, Rock Auto seemed to have a fair price of $110 for an ACD reman (+$100 core). Dont forget the ever popular Duracrap at VatoZone for $115.

Wasnt there some Chevy to Jeep cnversion too? I think that was more towards trail rigs though.

Same with the rag joint? All vendors only list a Dorman for manual, no auto. How would the tranny matter on that part?

Seems pretty simple to change, 3 bolts, 2 hydralic lines and the rag joint? Listen to me, I do brakes and now Im like steering box, ya' no problem.

Any help - suggestions would be nice. Mine is leaking all of a sudden...a lot. No, I dont want to rebuild it.

A 2WD box on a 4WD without crossover steering will make you turn right when you turn the wheel to the left and vice-versa.

What's wrong with that? It would be just like driving an old boat with the cable and pulley system instead of a cable operated system. Someone recently go a Reman for $163. If the Rock Auto one is any good, and shipping don't kill you, GMSB members also get 5% discount that helps a little.

If it's only leaking at the steering shaft & pitman arm seals I would just replace those. You don't have to disassemble the whole thing to fix those.

That looks like my power steering unit from sitting 5 minutes in the K1500 and why I'm not driving it right now. I did today though. Got to play in the sand for someone who was stuck and had to go tug them out.
