Ok so in a bit of a bind. I had replaced the both headgaskets and the engine was running pretty good. was a b**** to start sometimes. Well I ensured the distr was set correct to TDC. Ensure no binds in fuel line. Ended up replacing the stock Carb cause it seemed to be flooding the spark plugs, and sometimes would spit fuel. Carb that I replaced it with was a 1405 Edelbrock. With the edelbrock adapter plate to mount onto the intake. I had to remove the EGR valve that was on the valve cover and sealed it. Prior to replacing the head gasket there was nothing connected to the EGR. Might be something im overlooking, might not be. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

are you sure you have distributor on tdc (top dead center) compression and not exhaust?

make sure it was set to tdc on #1 if the rotor button is at that cylinder i would check the plug wires routing on the rotar i know how that sounds but i pulled my hair out with this problem on my truck it was out 180 if your wired correctly then i would check fire at the plug if ya have fire at the plug then check fuel delivery to make sure its getting fuel firing order is 18436572 hope this helps ya i know how it feels ta have one thats actin like that they can be a pain

yeah sorry bout that just saw the problem my 6 must not have typed ya know how keypads can be or i just simply missed it never heard of egr in valve cover

I had to remove the EGR valve that was on the valve cover and sealed it.

I think he is saying that, in order to pull the RH valve cover, it is necessary to first remove the EGR valve. It's a real close fit and when trying to pull the cover, you either hit the valves on the inside or the EGR valve on the lower lip:
