When I turn the ignition key, the dashboard lights come on, but there's no click at all from the starter.

I've been working on this for two weeks and I've gone about it all wrong. My starter stopped working and it had been dragging anyway, so I replaced it. That didn't fix it, so I replaced the neutral safety switch and the ignition switch which were original but none of that fixed it. I've also checked the battery (good charge) and the ground. The headlights come on brightly, as do the dash lights, but when I turn the key, they don't dim at all.

I'm not super handy with a voltmeter, but I'm afraid that's the direction this is going.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's a 1987 R10, Silverado, 305 TBI, 2wd

Thanks.

You replaced the electrical part of the ignition switch,I hope. Take it back off, leave the wires plugged in,work the switch with a small screwdriver. Post results I've got a feeling it's going to start. Post results

Melted fusible link?

Download the wiring diagram and start checking from the starter and work you way back to the ignition switch. You need to diagnose before replacing parts.

We can walk you through the tests you need to figure out the issue.

See if the purple wire has 12 volts when in the crank position. Also clean your engine ground.
