Here's a pic of my very first attempt at soldering. The top of the joint is me. The bottom is @gmachinz when he soldered in the crimp for the kit. I've got some practicing to do lol

That's a good one for stiffeling a Glock.

It's in that pic. Left hand side at the bottom of that crimp where you soldered the crimp onto the wire. You know where yours is all pretty and smooth :) that is soldered, right? Looks like it is but just much nicer than mine at the top of that joint lol

I had to help a buddy track down an electrical problem in his JEEP that has been giving him fits for 2 years-finally all of his climate control motor door operations and blower motor quit working. I traced it all the way to a faulty (it was technically an open circuit since there was a major corrosion blockage) so there was voltage at the fuse panel but not at the blower relay on that same wire-it was a severely corroded wire under his fuse panel underhood. Here's how I do "field" repairs with regards to soldering....pics are in order-this is the best way to do it imo.....enjoy:

If room allows strip back about an inch of good wire strands on both ends-elimination the corroded section....slide a piece of dual wall polyolephin heatshrink on the longest lead like so...

I use strands of 10ga wire to act as a tie wrap to tightly bound the repair section together-I stock 6-inch lengths just for this purpose....

After sliding the tubing over and slowly heating it the gel starts to ooze out the ends to seal it and that's it-repair done!

Something I had to do last night. I like using solder paste. When your soldering over stuff other than your bench (wiring harness, ckt board, etc), put a paper towel under it to catch the excess flux. Makes for quicker clean up, and you can use that paper towel w/alcohol to clean off the flux when your done soldering.

I use strands of 10ga wire to act as a tie wrap

I like that, never seen it. On the LS harness, I've been using what he's using below, but with longer strips of wire. Push the 2 sprawls together, then twist one end clockwise and the other end counter-clockwise. If you do it tight enough, the wires will hold each other together.

BTW, that is a handy stand also, you can make one if you like. It comes in real handy when you've got wire/components that don't want to stay in the correct position. Lets see if the youtube embed works....

LOL whats the damn code to embed a youtube video
