Friend of mine has access to a soda blaster.
I saw some negative stuff on the net.
Is it a good way to strip the truck before paint?
Has anyone done it?

Body panels or frame?

Body panels get warped, they use crushed wallnut shells for body panels. I am not 100% on the soda blasting though.

From what I've read/seen, soda blasting won't warp panels, but it just doesn't have the grit to do deep rust removal.

I have also heard soda blasting is good for doing body work. The soda as I understand it, is about like backing soda. Its just abrasive enough to strop off a bad paint job or surface rust, but not so abraive to the point it warps the sheet metal or leaves pits and deep scratches in the body panel. I've also heard if you ever had an engine fire and wanted to try and reuse the fenders wells or hood, then soda blasting is the best way to remove the rust that forms immediatly on a burnt surface that had water applied to it.

The truck is a 74 c20 that was a barn find. The story that I got is this. The guy bought the truck new, the year that he graduated high school. He was a farm kid, and this was the Saturday night truck.
He put 24,000 miles on it from 74 to 80, when it started to rust. He put new front fenders on it, undercoated the entire truck, and parked it in the barn.
It is mostly original, just really needs paint.
I'll post pics when I get going.
Thanks for the input, I need it.
