I just had this problem, but on a IH. Check to make sure the little plastic things have not fallen off your shifting forks. There are two different types. If the forks do not have them on, it will not push the fork far enough and will get stuck in two gears and will not move until you take the top cover off and pop the tranny in neutral.

Some cars back in the 80's, you had to have it in reverse just to get the key out of the ignition.

70s GMs too - my '76 Vette is that way. I hardly ever let anyone else drive it, but when I do it always throws them off.
