I have a 1954 Bel Air that I bought many years ago back in 2009/10ish.
It had the paint and interior done on it and that was how I justified the simple mechanical issues it had.
But it ran and drove just fine.

How I purchased it with my new wheels on the front.

Fast forward a bit (2011ish) of it living in the driveway.
The super cheap top coat the PO used on the car faded super bad.
To achieve the all around uniform color change I had to rotate the car a couple of times so it came out fairly even.

At this point I got pissed at it and we just had many other life activities going on to deal with it, so it has sat.

Back in 2020, a buddy saw these sitting at the local junkyard.
A little haggling and I walked out the door with them for $130.

They look good on the car even though they are rough.

A few months later Max got it out to see what could be done with the paint.
It turns out just the top coat was trash over the maroon.
So he polished through the top to the base and it shines right up.

That is kind of where it is now.
Soon it will be going under the knife.
A L-31 V8 and a 4L80 will be getting put into the chassis.
I need to sort out the rear end a bit still.
Interweb reading has told me that the sourced 2001 S-10 axle with disc brakes will be too wide and the calipers will contact the frame.
So either I get it shortend or find the more proper axle.
I do also have a Exploder axle for it in the yard, but it will also need some work to be able to go under the car.

Choices choices choices....

This is my current project. Not the one I want but the one I need. It's name is Project Daily.

I picked this thing up last year for $500 running and driving needing tlc to use as a flipper. I've got $1,300 into it now.

I quit my job on friday that I had for 17 years with a company vehicle and gas card so had to make something happen. I'm hoping this thing will sip gas a little bit less than my freaking Suburban will. Fingers crossed.

This thing frustrated me. It was kind of like torturing myself. You see I really really would like to have a 4.3 to put in my YJ and here's a very nice example that runs really good for cheap. And then ever since I got my first S10 in 99 I've wanted to make a version of the typhoon/cyclone and many of the parts are right here.

I remember getting in a Bravada at the new car show, and it had these black leather buckets that were SO comfortable, buttery soft leather too, that I really wanted to take them home.... I think these were a little ahead of their time, seems they should have sold better than they did.

Ohhh it's the go forever and ever crooked 6. That'll give @89Suburban a bowner. He's a Dodge boy. I had a 71 Plymouth Duster that was a V8 car with a 318 and rare that you found one with a 8 3/4in rear end. That was usually in the 340 cars like the Dodge Demon. I had bought this nice duster for $100 cuz it had a broken chanshaft in it. We thought it was a rod knock. Nope, broken crank. The way it broke on the throws and counterweights, it would still push the broken piece so it did run, was just noisy at all get out. I pulled the engine, was working on some 340 heads for it and going to buy a new crank kit and reassemble it. That's when I found out I had knocked up a bish and that changed everything. I ended up selling it with the engine in a basket of parts including the 340 heads that I got lucky enough to get out of Pull A Part for $400 and I never did get to drive it. The guy who bought it had to rub it in my nose. He just put a nice 340 in it with a mild RV cam and port work done to the heads. It ran realllll goood. I was so damn jelly.

Yep it's got those seats. Leather, fake walnut, Bose sound, OnStar, tint, power everything including moonroof ...They pretty much through the kitchen sink at it. They went for like 30k right up next to the Blazer that was only 15k or something like that.

Guy local to me used the aluminum block 305 I think. No idea what he did to hold up the front.
Eric
Never heard of an aluminum block 305. Now I wouldn't be surprised if he used an aluminum Buick 215. That was later sold to Rover and was put in landrovers and TR8s. I could even see an Oldsmobile aluminum 300,due to the similarities to the aluminum 215. Not sure but I think either of those could be close to bolt in using some TR8 MGB GT MGB GT V8 and rover parts.

That Dart is super clean. I kinda love that it still has the slant 6. Nice car.
A lot of them will keep the crooked 6 since factory, there were many more crooked 6 made than 318/340. To do a PROPER engine swap to a small block V8, requires the K member to be changed. It's a Dodge thang. GM was great with interchangability but Dodges, not so much, and for sure not Ford since they had so many different bell housing patterns but yeah many Dodges for an engine swap done to be like factory, often times requires ripping the whole front susension off the car and changing out the K frame that all the control arms and such bolt to.

The previous owner, Juan.
Took the car from Portland to Tijuana to have the one day interior done to the car.
It looks pretty good and has held up well.

It was also on hydros when I got it, those were fun.
All the way down would smash your toes with the chassis, ask me how I know.

All the way up in 4x4 mode...

Then I started reading and learning about hydro setups.
What I got was the cheapest and crappiest way to do things...

I rebuilt all the ****** battery cables that it came with.
That made them work much better, but it was still a janky system that was just haphazardly put in place.

Once I found out he was lifting the rear of the car with the body...

Yanked out all that crap and put all stock stuff back in.
Juan traded the work for the hydro set up, I traded a stock powerglide for a set of stock rear springs.
I also located a new front subframe to replace the one with torched out shock towers.
This is the stock height of the car.

I did not like that.
Juan chopped 1-1/2 coils off the front springs to bring the front down.
Much betters...

In went a set of 3 inch lowering blocks.
I hate this set up as the scrub line is mucho bado.
If I were to get a flat, the spring hardware would drag.
It will be remedied in the future with the open drive line upgrade.

But it gets the desired results of a proper lowered car.
