My 1982 dually build just became a longer term project so need to get it back on the road with a temporary power plant. Currently has a 6.2 that I haven't been able to get running right after multiple attempts. Don't want to put more money and time into the diesel.

As far as motor mount locations on the frame, is the location for the 6.2 mounts the same as a small block Chevy? Know I'll need to swap the torque converter and some exhaust work, put in a relay and wiring for the fuel pumps.

Have a pair of stock tanks with pumps and all the plumbing so am getting those put in the truck. Also have a mildly built TPI motor sitting in the shop that will bolt up to the TH400 so that seems like the quickest way to get the truck mobile. Small block isn't ideal but considering what that 6.2 puts out probably not much of a difference.

Have an 8.1 and 4L80E but if I dive into that right now it'll probably be sitting for another year before I can even get started. With that I'm getting into wiring harness, trans mounts, whole new exhaust, driveline, etc.

Dually has been sitting for the last couple of months, pretty much splitting time between working on landscaping and the Thunderbird. Have a little break on the yard with rain this weekend so taking another run at troubleshooting the 6.2. Time is getting away from me and not able to put the hours into a motor swap.

Consensus seems to be it's either the IP or sucking air into the fuel system somewhere. Going to run it off a 5 gallon jug in the bed routed directly to the fuel pump and see what happens. If it runs okay then must be a supply issue between the pickup and the pump. Really hate to see it sit and I'm already 3 weeks into June. Too many projects and not retired yet!
