I moved this post to it's own thread Doug. Your situation is a bit different than MikeB's was.

So when you say installed a Z71 Column, what year truck did the column come out of? Z71 won't matter at all. And was it originally an automatic column shift or has it been modified?

Are you positive he installed the whole column from another truck? It's common that later model steering wheels are swapped over to the original column.
