It seems the very people that these trucks were designed for are being priced out of the market by a bunch of posers. I thought my bid was extravagent at $152. I was blown away when I saw the winning bid.

The good news is that considering all the junk in my cellar, garage and shed - there is a good chance I might be worth millions.

As these trucks get older and think we're going to see more and more of this especially for NOS parts.

I know. I was asking myself last night "Where the hell do these guys find NOS parts that are still in the box?" Not even the dealers have anything left to speak of, and they were the only ones authorized to sell GM parts.

They must find the stuff in old barns - parts that somone once bought from a dealer and never used. Or maybe an auto body shop that was in business for years closes, and the building sells with all stock included.

Wherever the stuff comes from - I want to know, so I can go there too.

Yeah, I'm sure it's mostly dumb luck how they are found at this point. Like you said, someone buys a part but never installs it or a shop that has inventory left over after it closes. Even good quality slightly used OEM parts are pricey these days.

You'd be surprised what is still on dealer shelves. When I worked for the ford dealer in the parts depot (99-04), we had a ton of 60's, 70's, and 80's parts that were long past production. I even witnessed someone buying a 72 Mustang grill complete NOS that has been on a shelf in some hillbilly dealership in Iowa for decades. Technically a dealer is supposed to purge old inventory and send it back to ford so they can wholesale it (this is how most NOS ends up on the market) but a lot of these smaller dealerships don't do it, and the dealer I worked at had the biggest inventory in the midwest back then so a lot fell through the cracks.

If you have a good dealership with an old timer who still knows how to use the old paper and microfiche parts lists to get the part numbers, they can usually do a national search to find a lot of parts. Most Parts salesman will just look at the computer, say "I can no longer order it", and dismiss you. If you are lucky. Most will just blow you off when you say, I need an XX for a 1991 suburban.

I've seen a lot of stuff hang around in dealers that change brands too. For a while, Columbus had a Kia dealer with a parts department full of classic Olds parts and even still had Olds wall decorations from the 60's. There's also a Hyundai dealer that still has a lot of Pontiac parts on the shelves.
