What I would fear after getting into mine is a cab might look ok on the surface but there is stuff hidden that is much harder to see.

I would 100% replace that cab.

500 bucks and a road trip.

Or... Tek screw some drop in floor pans to it and roll another 5-6 years.

Sorry for not replying. Usually I get an e-mail when somebody responds but I was checking the thread now and saw all of these replies.
I've done 3 cab repairs similar to what you describe. It's not that difficult. You'll need a mig welder if you don't already have one. Take a class or teach yourself like I did. You don't have to use the whole patch panel. Simply cut back to good metal and fit the new metal. It's a dinosaur truck, not a space shuttle. Take your time. There are plenty of good videos on YouTube to show you what is involved.
Thanks for the info! Could you give me the links to the YouTube vids you recommend?
A few pics of the rust issues would help us give you some direction.
Sorry but I don't have it stripped down yet. What I know is just from looking at the outside and from crawling underneath. I will probably start on it some time this summer though.
Probably better off to replace the cab.Time and money wise.
I thought about that but I decided to fix this one up because it is a one owner truck and I am 15 years old and I thought it would be a good experience for me to fix up my first truck.:)
I am in the process of this, you can buy almost all of the parts but it is super time consuming.

I found the rust was more than expected but it was a family truck and I wanted to learn how to do body work. Lucky enough, my uncle has helped me along the way. I know people say I should've swapped the cab but I will know exactly the condition of my cab when I am done.
Did you make or buy those braces? If you made them do you have the measurements and plans for how you made them? Thanks!

For the cab, I just made them, really I built the bracket that bolts to the door hinge bolts, then a c channel that bolts the the seat belt. Then I just started laying it out how I saw fit. Depending where you are, you might be able to use it, I was able to get it out in one piece.

Thanks! Where did you get your rust patch panels? Is it worth doing the whole floor if both sides need replacing?

USA1 for most of it, the floor came from Goldenstar but I think AMD now offers it. It was the decision we made when looking at the project. I am not sure if it was right or not but we are on the downhill slide. The firewall, they were made out of a sheet of steel and bent accordingly.
