Repro tailgates VS originals

How do the reproduction tailgates compare to the originals? Thinner? Flimsy?

Neither one of my squares has a tailgate and I've been on the lookout for a couple. Seems they're pretty hard to find in good condition. Most have one or 2 good sized dents in the top.

I found what looks to be a damn nice used one for $75, but it's a decent distance from me. I'd probably spend $20-25 on fuel. Or I could get an aftermarket one for $80-100.

most repros are flimsy thin and are junk if you can grab a oem one your better off.

Anyone have experience with the repro stepside tailgates? Decent? My tailgate is starting to look like swiss cheese. It's beyond 'patina' and getting into 'hosed'.

Lol. Nobody likes a swiss cheese tailgate.

I don't have any experience with the aftermarket stepside tailgates, but I've seen several trucks at car shows with them and they look pretty good.
