I've always rattle canned engine blocks and parts. They make special engine paint.

High-temp engine paint at most any auto parts store. Be sure to wipe the block down with paint thinner on a rag to get any oil off first, let dry, then use an old set of valve covers/oil pan that you aren't worried about getting overspray on.

Well the oil pan, valve covers and timing cover need repainted also. Does high temp paint come in engine blue?

don't expect it to last forever though, it usually cracks and comes off. Always does for me. Back when american hotrod(boyd codington) was on tv they used to paint them with reg. paint. I thought wtf? how does that hold up?

I thought I should clarify, every engine part I painted was stripped to bare metal from getting the block vatted. That means the old paint was eaten off to bare metal. Im sure if you tried spraying over the existing hard paint it eventually will be chipping off.

Yeah which is why I said wipe the block with paint thinner. Sometimes after a dip they shoot some light oil on it to prevent rust, which will impede the adhesion of paint.

that's the same stuff that's been around for years, duplicolor engine enamel. it has ceramic in it, rustoleum has engine paint now, summit, almost anywhere. wal-mart magic mart, autozone, advance.

I might have take a wire brush or wheel to mine for the surface rust unless paint thinner removes surface rust too.

I recommend the Rustoleum engine paint, that stuff is great. It covers really well and the can will spray even if it's upside down.
