Ive done it twice over a year and a half I got 5 months outa one and 15 mins out of another. What way works best ...can there be a problem and itll just never stop. Ive put it in straight across ...slanted 1/2 " it dose appear to have pitting of some kind on part of the crank ..what do you guys do that works...

If the crankshaft is pitted in the area where the lips of the seal make contact - I think that's your answer.

If the pitting is localized - only where the seal currently lands on the shaft - try this.
It is an acceptable modification and - depending on the degree of pitting - it will work:


You might be able to shift the point of contact outward, to an area of the shaft that is still smooth.

Use a thicker gasket (or stack a few gaskets). When this is installed between the seal housing and the block, the entire assembly will move backwards on the shaft. With any luck, the lip of the seal will ride on a new (un-pitted surface) and the leakage will stop.

If you make stack of gaskets, be sure to glue them together to avoid a blow out.
