450 hp, he should be able to run that still on Leafs and big enough slicks. IF he has wheel hop, might try some traction bars. For a 9 second Square, I'd be willing to bet that was 4 linked, coil springs, and a narrowed rear end and tubbed.

If I remember it was stock suspension. Heres a vid of it...... This was just before Memphis closed.

Cut everything unnecessary out of the front end, ditch the ac and heat if it's a race only truck.manual steering, aluminum everything, move the battery to the bed as far back and to the passenger side as possible, also mount a fuel cell against the tailgate. Cal tracs, slicks, a good set of gears, and a locker, and you should be set up for well over the 450/500 you're looking at.

Impressive. That does appear to be leafs. Looking close, it does appear to have traction bars. I could make out the bumper on the traction bar as he launched. :cheers:

Here's mine. Far from stock suspension but the frame isn't tubbed to fit these in...just the bed. You can flip the leafs to the inside of the frame with some fab work. Use some caltracs and you should be pretty well off for hookin'....and use some DO5 compound Hoosiers. If you keep a stock type rear, invest in c-clip eliminators....it will save your fenders!! I'm running a BBC (500+cubes), Hughes PRO th400 with brake and 4500 stall. A Strange 9in with 4.56 spool and 35 spline gun drilled axles take the beatings.

Welcome to GMSB. I was hoping this was going to have a Pancho powerplant in it. I'm working on, still in planning stages, waiting for funds to arrive, to put a truck together with an Olds 455 and Variable Pitch stall 400. We do have some Pancho fans here too. I am/was one. I think you always are if have have been at one time, but now that I've done Panchos and Chevy's in the past, I want to move onto Olds power.

I bet it runs like hell too. Not many realize, and equally set up Olds 350, will spank the **** out of an Chevy 350. The Olds 350 is the most square 350 of any GM motor ever made. Reffering to the Bore/Stroke combo. Now Olds 455 is one of the most off square motors ever designed, but still makes a **** ton of power and raw torque. With all things considered, I can actually build a closer to stock Olds 455 for less than I can build a 454 and make alot more power from the Olds. Pro's and Con's to both. BBO doesn't like high rpm for example. Their rotating mass is so damn heavy, you get it moving to fast, it'll blow to pieces. Lots of work and money to get a BBO to survive at 6500 rpm. 5500 rpm is good max target for rpm in an Olds BBO. This is why I'll be putting my 455 in the truck that has the 3.21 rear gears. Going to be basically stock with a couple adders, a mild cam and make 425hp with a tad of porting on some OEM cast iron heads. Just grinding out the Nox smog bumps and some gasket match porting. Maybe even consider adding another 100hp with a small NOS plate for 525hp. Bring on the ricers !!! Watch'em get their little asses spanked by pure American Heavy Metal Iron sleeper.

I'm a poncho fan myself. My high school shop teacher was a pontiac guru, big enough that Arnie Beswick came to his funeral.

I've got a '74 firebird (70-73 formula 400 clone) in the shop right now, working on a fresh 400 for it right now. My buddy and I bought a 72 esprit years ago with the intentions of doing another formula 400 car... Finding that hood was a bitch!

I did the Pancho thing for awhile too with 389's, 421's with 4 speeds. Had a buddy with a 455SD in a Goat that I nelped work just to say I did. :rofl: And another bud with a 68 Firebird w 400 and onother with a 72 Ram Air hood Firebird. Mine was a big ass boat car. 64 Grand Prix. Loved that car and still miss it. I had 2 of them actually. Ran good for a heavy ass car with a 421 and a Muncie 4 speed.

He was big if "The Farmer" came to his funeral. I met him once in Florida at a Pontiac Drag weekend in my hometown. He grude matched against a friend of mine that had a 68 Goat
