Hi guys. It's been hot here, and I don't mind a vehicle without AC, especially when you have wing windows. That's me. My wife on the other hand, is different. She likes the truck, but won't ride in it because of the lack of AC. Anyone had experience with recharging the original compressor with R12? I am NOT paying someone to fix this BS problem, but if I can do it myself reasonably......
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

R12 is gone. You need to convert to r134a.

I have 2 friends now that have dumped 134A on top of the 12 and there still working. Its not suppose to be good for it and can clog up the TXV but one of the two friends has done it to several cars and has not had any problems. They fazed out 12 a while ago.

yea the price of r12 makes it not worth the expense. what if you have a leak? It's easier to go to a pawn shop for some old r12/22 gauges and buy the low side 134 retrofit fitting screw that onto the gauges and fill the system that way. you'll be able to pressure test then.

R12 substitute

I just recharged my system with an r12 substitute I found on amazon. It wasn't very expensive and worked like it should have. I cant recall the exact name but its there for sale. Later , Jack
