Have a 73 square body 2500 camper special. 29k only for miles. 454 barn find.

Trying to decide whether to go to all the fuss of fixing it up or find a new home for it?

what is wrong with it?

Camper Specials are extra valuable (the little Teepees are much loved).

(just don't mention you want to actually sell it here until you get through all the minimum rules to do so)
https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/for-sale-rules.50021/

off this forum is the place to sell it anyway.

With only 29K I'd think the easy answer is fix.

This is about as open ended of a question as you could ask…impossible to even begin to give an opinion.
Also it didn’t come with a 454. Not that it matters really but it’s not “special” because of the engine. Engine has been replaced at some point.

Why would you say it didn’t come with a 454?

Sounds like you're fishing for a prospective buyer even now! Welcome to the site and where are the pics of this gem?

According to this 1973 GMC truck brochure, 454's were an option

Pretty sure 454 was an option.

Any time I go for parts I am told the engine in my camper special is a 454. It's a 350, and when I tell them that, they then tell me the transmission is a th350. It's a th400.

I believe the OP that it's a 454 until they post pics that show otherwise.

I believe it’s a 454, or some big block. Hard to mistake one for the other.
But Squarebody K truck = no factory big block. Ever, I think.
In 1973, 155 screaming ponies out of a 350 was the biggest motor.
(All 2wds had a 454 option, in the 70s at least.)
70s and 80s cars and trucks were lame AF in the power and drivetrain department.

Dude, the OP is saying his truck is a C2500, which would make it a 3/4 ton two wheel drive, and a GMC

Here is an SPID from a 1973 C2500 GMC pickup

Well don’t I feel stupid….

Not sure how I interpreted his post as it being a K2500.
But he didn’t actually say whether it was 2wd or 4. I assumed apparently.

My friend Dave had a 1973 camper special crew cab and most certainly did have a 454. He took the truck down to the frame to do a really solid restoration, and then regrettably passed away before ever seeing it done. Gives me much sadness to think it ended up going to scrap because all the peices were there, just not asembled as a complete truck. I do know who bought the 454 (rebuilt and never run) from the estate sale but the rest of it - who knows where or what its fate was.

2wd you could, 454 4wd not an option. 350 was biggest 4wd option.
