I just finished installing a reman carb and when I cranked her up she was smoking up a storm.
And barely running. I am assuming that this is a timing issue. Is there something else on the carb that I should check or adjust?

Not likely timing if you did not touch the distributor,,, sounds more like an over-rich condition, maybe bad float level or idle air-mix screws not adjusted.
Best regards and luck,

Idle circuit is too rich. Likely needs new rods and jets. A rebuild won't give you that.

Did you adjust the idle mixture screws....gently all the way in, then backed out 1 1/2 turns is an good starting point

Yes, you should check that these 6 letters are cast on your carb. H O L L E Y
LMAO that's what I was gonna suggest. Tie a rope around the choke linkage and use it as a anchor. Then go out and get a holley. Needless to say I had a quadrasuck at one time.

the only people that say qjet and edelbrock are junk is because they dont know how to tune them , iv seen some pretty hard hitting q jets in the stock class at the us nationals , if u are wanting gas milage for the street then the q jet is the way to go
