Hey guys...

I have a Milodon oil pan with a fel-pro one piece gasket. The gasket seems kinda thick and need different set of bolts to accommodate the thick gasket . Is this Ok or should I go with a different kind of gasket.

The pan seems like its bending a bid on the ends when im bolting it down.

Have any of ya'll had this problem.

Thanks.

Measure the pan and see what it comes up with. There are two types of gaskets.

Last year when I resealed my engine, I too went with a one-piece oil pan gasket and I didn't have any issues with bolt length or pan warpage. I used a Victor Reinz gasket for it and torqued the pan to spec, which reminds me I need retorque everything, I hate an oily engine after spending hours of cleaning, painting and sealing.

Problem is you now have 4-5 fewer bolt threads into the block than you had with a cork gasket. That could lead to stripped threads in the block, which is why Fel-Pro includes a longer set of bolts with their 1-piece pan gasket "kits". I bought just the gasket, because the black bolts that come with the kit rust quickly.

I cannot remember the exact number off the top of my head, but I think the torque spec is something like 11 ft/lb, that shouldn't strip any threads.

thanks guys.

My mistake. I ordered a milodon one piece gasket.

Here are some pic..

I jus laid the pan down on the gasket and it has a gap on both side of about 3/8".

so basically the pan will shift to the left or right when trying to secure it. Is this ok or do I need a different gasket.

its thicker than the old gasket around the timing chain cover. is it meant to be thick for the seal to be tight on the timing cover?

Doesn't look too thick to me. Just looks like you need to install the bolts and torque them to spec. If you've installed and torqued the bolts, then yeah you've got problems.

Having used several Fel-Pro 1-piece gaskets, I can tell you that the ends seem too thick and too tall until you tighten the pan bolts. That said, if you have a very early block, you will need a different 1-piece gasket, as illustrated above by firebane.

finished up installing the oil pan. Went on with no problem.

Here's some pics of the motor.

I used a torque wrench to torque the bolts down to 12 ft. lbs. but the torque wrench I have (3/8 drive) I was not able to feel 12ft lbs. So I just got 1/4 drive ratchet and snug the bolts.

I also laid a good bead of gasket maker for insurance.

Should not have any leaks...I hope.

If you use Felpro blue gaskets you should not be using ANY sealer at all. Surfaces should be squeaky clean with acetone or something similar and applied as is.

If you have leaks with Felpro blues you have gap issues somewhere.

Didn't use Felpro Gasket..

I used the Milodon 1 piece gasket.

Have the picture above of the gasket. It's a black gasket with washers built into the bolt holes to prevent over torqueing.

Gasket is even on all sides.

I would say even with the Milodon it looks like the Felpro stuff and be hesitant to use any sealant.

X1^^ If anything a tiny dab in the corners of the timing cover and the rear seal area. That's an old school trick used with the 4-piece-gasket-sets, but not sure it is needed on the one-piece. I did it on mine just because, but not a bead all the way around. Hope yours doesn't leak.
