I was needing a sm465 for my '74 K20 and found one that came with a np205. Had a bit of a time to find a slip yoke as the unit was from an '81, but everything else was fine until I tried to put in the crossmember. My crossmember has mount holes 7 1/2" apart, the 465/205 adapter has them 6" apart and offset a bit from crossmember. I can not find a parts listing for different mounts or crossmember. What is my solution?

If the donor '81 was not a K30, there's no doubt it was swapped in from another truck. And if it was a K30, the crossmember won't work in a K20 with smaller frame rails.

Is it a "round pattern" 205? They used a different mount and a different crossmember than what your older truck came with.

Thanks for the help! I may take you up on that AuroraGirl, reading your thread inspired me to start this one. It is the figure 8 style 205, it is from a K30 (so I was told) but I am attempting to use my existing crossmember from 203. So, I ended up calling a local yard because when I was looking for the slipyoke, the guy saw the phone pic and knew exactly what I had and needed. I also got a shifter from him and thought that same rig may have a crossmember. He's pulling it tomorrow and I'll pick it up on Saturday. Hope it is my answer. Thank you all again.

I'll have to compare again, I remember my 205 and 203 crossmembers being the same. One of the holes is an oval.

Would you guys like a picture of mine or is fine not needed? if I read correctly it sounds like you're talking about a 1-ton instead of a 3/4 ton

^^^ this. When i swapped a 76 racetrack 205 in place of my 79 203, both crossmembers were the same. One hole is oval and you move the rubber mount over to compensate.

Heres the holes in the crossmember. This is from a K10/20. 1 ton crossmember may be different.

Oh, I just remembered! I think that crossmember had a third application too, as a carrier bearing crossmember on crew cab trucks. I can crawl under the truck tomorrow and double check that.
