No lights !

Hey guys, I have an 81 c10 that doesn’t have any headlights, dash lights, taillights.. I have a new headlight switch coming right now.. my question is while looking under the dash at the back of the switch I noticed the white wire was damaged and looks like the black one as well… could this be my problem? Also can I just sodder the exposed part or should I replace the connector.. any help would be greatly appreciated!

The white wire is the ground trigger for the interior lights.

Get a 12 volt test light. Check for power on the red wire. That’s your headlight feed, no power, check the fusible links.

Orange is taillight feed from the taillight fuse, it should show power. If not, check the tail light fuse.

Brown is power to the taillights. If you have power on the orange wire, but nothing on the brown with the headlights on, replace the switch.

The green wire is dash lights, it goes to the dash light fuse. Keep in mind, the green wire gets its power from the taillight feed. Meaning no power on the brown wire, equals no power on the green. It’s also controlled by the dash light resistor, make sure the headlight know is cranked all the way before checking the green wire.

Yellow is headlight feed to the dimmer switch. If you have power on the red, but nothing on the yellow, replace the switch. If you have power on the yellow but no headlights, check for power on the tan and light green wires at the dimmer switch.
