Hello from AZ :pepper:

I have looked on this site for what I have nearly completed... Stock Manual transmission to an 700R4 Automatic, 205 transfer case...

Three issues still...

1. My 700R4 has only one pin wire where most have a two wire plug or even a three plug. Do I run a wire (12 Volts) to this pin and have a switch on the dash for when I want the transmission to go into lock up???? All kinds of threads on how this will kill/not kill the transmission, I don't know what's really true!

2. My lights on the dash come on but my headlights now don't work! Is there some wire I need to jump? where? (Is this like the former clutch pedal that has to be jumped, pedal pushed in before the truck would start??)

3. Same for the reverser lights, they do not work... what wire and where?

Some help would be great!!:worship:

Welcome to GMSB. Plenty of help here to sort out these issues you're having if put in the right places. Many guys don't even look at the intro section. Maybe start you a build thread in the Under Construction section with a few pic of the truck and you're likley to get more responses.

Are you saying the truck was originally an SM465 manual 4 speed with an NP205 and you've converted it to 700r4/NP205?

Original or stock was SM465 manual 4 speed with a 208 transfer case and yes to putting in the 700R4 and 205... Did not know I'd have the electrical trouble when doing this project... When I read up, tried to find out any info on the swap... I was prepared for things like, new Flex plate, bolts, torque converter, kick down cable, automatic pedal, shift linkage, automatic steering column, dash indicator for automatic, front and rear drive lines the adapter for 700r4 to the 205 transfer case and cross member to support the new transmission and transfer case... Truck runs and drives great! But know to the electrical problems that nobody mentioned in anything I read.

No brake lights, no reverse lights, no headlights, dash lights work :hmm: and still trying to figure out the one wire plug for torque converter lock-up

If the truck was OEM SM465, it's not wired for lock up converter at all. That you will have to buy an aftermarket kit to do, or you will need to find the parts off an OEM 700r4 truck. The lights not working shouldn't a thing to do with the transmission swap unless you pulled the electrical harness or grounded out some wires that are blowing fuses.

Howdy!

Your electrical problems aren't from your trans swap, that's why you didn't read about them. I'd start looking for a wire that was maybe pulled loose somewhere when you swapped the column or pedal bracket or something.

What did your trans come out of? You say it's just got a single wire, but that wire is in a square 4-pin plug, correct?

The steering column is new than an 84 has a white connect at the end of the steering column almost to the fire wall, the stock steering did not has this connection...

The one pin is a male connector and that is it .

I think the trans already has an aftermarket lockup kit installed in it or you actually have a th400.

I think he said he had an SM465 and I'm thinking maybe back up light switch wire. You could be right though. If it's a single orange wire, that's to the Th400 kickdown solenoid.

I thought he was talking about the plug on the trans itself.

hmm, maybe. I thought he was talking he had a 1 wire plug from the truck to plug into the 4 plug on the trans case.

You might need to clear that up Opie (OP).

Ok... so I have a 700r4... on the left side of the transmission (driver side) the plug for power has only one male connector coming out...I think the builder did this for his own reasons... don't know the builder....

It's hard to say what the trans builder has done. Some kits just require 12 volts to the wire and others get the 12 volts going through a vacuum switch first. I personally would temp install a toggle switch to give it 12 volts on a test drive and see how it acts under different driving conditions. The switch is just so it can be turned off if needed.
