Just wanted to see if I'm the only one that thinks new AT tires are butt ugly. What is with the all the crap all over the sidewall these days? I don't think it looks good on a square at all.. I know it's designed to improve performance but I just wish there were some simple options out there for AT tires. Like the BFG KOs. I think all the busyness on the sidewall clashes with the simple lines of the Squarebody. The closest thing I could find that looks good in a 32x11.5R15 is this Nankang MT tire. Unfortunately it's out of stock everywhere.

I agree, but not ugly, they just don’t complete the period specific look.
There are a few out there. Like the Nankangs. FWIW they run small so you could likely do a 33-12.50 in those if that helps.
And then there’s vintage tires that can be had.
IMO as spendy as they are, BFGs aren’t bad as the lettering has stayed “similar”.
I’ve actually been kinda thinking the same thing when I get to tires n wheels on the 86. What to get that looks like it belongs on the truck? Sort of resolved myself to if they’re steelies that’s good enough and most any OWL tire will complete the look for the most part.

Good point. It's not that the tires are ugly in themselves but just not as complimentary to the squares IMO. My problem is I'm picky about the details which usually winds up being very expensive! I'm going with OEM Rallys / OWL 32s with 3 leaf springs in the front (which the spring guy said will give a 1 to 1.5 lift) and the stock rear springs re-arched to make level. 85 K10

All that crap on the sidewall is very fuctional if you leave the pavement. I'll take function over looks any day.

My first flat tire was running over a stick and a sharp part of it came straight up and ripped the sidewall. That is very unlikely now with the tread that wraps up the sidewall a bit.

Glad to hear others feel the same way I do! I shopped tires extensively, finally settled on Mickey Thompson Deegan AT's because the pics online indicated that there wasn't all the sidewall knobbieism going on, plus lettering was smaller, a bit understated. Got them in, and they've got that same crap half way down the sides, and lettering is huge. Love the tire, but yeah, it destroys the look of a square.

So, you don't think the new version of the BF Goodwrench AT (the KO2) would look good on a square? When you look at the old version side by side, it still had a tread pattern that came down almost the same distance as the new KO2. It's just a different design, and more robust than the old version. Try Tire Rack's web site. Seems like they have a thing on there that shows what certain wheels and tires will look like

BFGs have about the closest look to “classic” tires.
Or Maxxis Bighorns or Buckshot mudders.

But they all have side knoobies now.
