Hey folks, just picked up a 1990 1500 Burb 4x4. And yes I am already needing help. Just went through the sticky on the steering column, got everything down in there tightened back up, and upon reassembly, the round plastic sphere joint separated when I was trying to wrangle the ignition cam back together. How the heck do you get that sucker back together???? it got to dark and the 25 degree temps were getting to me so I quit for the night. any help is appreciated. J

Howdy!

I don't have an answer to your question, I rarely get that far down into a steering column. WAY to frustrating for me, lol. I cringe if I have to go beyond replacing the turn signal cancel springs.

I'd have to see a pic of what you are talking about. I have rebuilt about 20 of these columns, so I could probably answer your question, but your description is a little lacking.

You have to be able to put it back to a 90 deg angle, and rotate it up, and lock it back in place. I don't know how you did that, it's a first for me. The ball must be worn down a bit, or you just got it, in the angle by letting it hang there.

That's exactly what happened I guess. Had it at just the right angle moving the unit around to tighten everything, it must have just popped out. Finally figured it out about 8 this evening, took me another 2 1/2 stinking hours to get the whole thing back together! I could not get the ignition linkage to line up. Anyway she's back together in one piece with no extra parts left over. Tackle the rear brakes this weekend and get that beauty on the road. Thanks again for everyone's input. I'm sure you'll hear from me again.
