I have an 85 that has a 305 according to the vin but I think it was replaced before. How can I verify the engine size before I start ordering parts?

passenger front side of the block, right in front of the head has a code that will tell what the motor is. Unless it was decked.

You may need to remove the alternator to see it.

There's also the block casting # at the rear of the block, right above the bellhousing area. If you climb up in there with a rag and a flashlight, you can usually get it clean enough to read it.

I ran a code once that came back something ridiculous like, "70-80 350 or 305 2 or 4 bolt main"
