Was able to verify that the engine is definitely stock by the suffix pad on the block, came up as F03I2M. Translates as Flint built, 03 for 1963, I2 for december since they use I for 1 and M for 283, 2 barrel, MT, Truck. Didn't have a code book for that and can't find one in print anymore, but here is an excellent link to the original Lime Book that you can download and print to make your own.

That's rare to have the original engine in those trucks. Way cool! You have a great truck in your possession.

Well, found out truck had sat for at least 10 years. Filled up the bowl and jumped it, 2 cranks and it started, lol. Needs new battery, fuel pump (rotted), new master cylinder, carb kit since accelerator pump hard as a rock, and a full tune up, but sounds pretty good.

Replaced a few items this weekend...gas caps, radiator cap, battery and cables, new antifreeze, and halfway done with carb rebuild. Swapping out the old oil filter canister for spin on assembly next. Finding it hard to find even basic parts for it like fuel pump and master cylinder. The master is weird because most places shows the rectangle lid one line out the bottom master to be for a powerglide truck, which this is clearly never been. Found one place that stocks it for $100, everyone else is out till mid november (ie, made in china) and I need to take it apart to verify bore if I want a rebuild kit...which doesn't come with lid gasket, so screwed anyways for that way. Going to just mod a newer sbc fuel pump into it, the old style is a bit odd for direction In line points.

Would a fuel pump for a 305 work? I thought they were basically the same design with the exception of how many ports. The PO of Crusty Biscuit thought the engine was a 283 and put 283 parts on it, but it's a 350. It ran just fine with the 283 fuel pump, but I switched it to an early 70's fuel pump and got an in-line adapter to go from 5/16 to 3/8. Unless you look for the change in size it is hidden. With these trucks not having a return line, finding a two port fuel pump shouldn't be too difficult.

I thought it was only the GMC's that had the hydraulic clutch setup? Hence the rectangular master cylinder with two ports. One for brake and one for clutch.

This photo shows the routing of the early 70's fuel pump and the 5/16 hose going to 3/8 hose to the pump.

There are 2 different rectangle masters and one round: round I think was vacuum boost; rectangle (long dimension front to back) single bore one line out for supposedly a 'glide truck (can't find much real info); and rectangle (long dimension left to right) with two bore, one brake one clutch. Just ordered a factory assembly manual specific to '63 with all the original GM part numbers and a factory service manual with supplements for '63 also, found both on fleebay. About the only way I'm going to get to the bottom of this, lol.

Good purchase on the manuals. I didn't know about the rectangle front to back MC. I've seen a few side to side. All of my '65s came with the round ones, but all were manual brake, although none were 1 ton, just 3/4 ton.

The local Napa here has the side by side if that is what yours is.

Mine is the single. Evidently the side by side came on rigs that had the 305 V-6 (so crappy they decided to make a v-8 version later, lol) because the slave was on the passenger side of the bellhousing, where manual is drivers side fork. I just found a reman hiding in an O'reily's out in Spokane Valley, last know one till mid november, so snagged it up. Should get it tomorrow. Chevy and GMC sure did some weird things right around there from 60-65 through 1/2-1 ton trucks, suburbans and 2.5 ton and larger trucks.

I don't know if that is true. A guy that goes the car show has a '63 C15 and it has the side by side. He swapped in a TH350 and plugged off the extra port and removed the clutch pedal. That 305 v6 was a grunt monster from what I understand. @HotRodPC knows more about those than I do. That's cool you found a master cylinder up there. Chevy and GMC did do weird stuff, but the end users did way more wacky conversions and swaps than the auto companies could even dream up. One thing I like about these older truck, is there are some parts and pieces from the big trucks that will swap over/interchange with the smaller trucks. One guy shared with me at the car show on Saturday of the C20 or C30 that his dad had, and it had two brownie boxes installed in it. It must have been a 30, because the trailing arms on a 20 would probably get in the way of the rearward brownie box.

Since you have a single, if the mounting is the same as mine, and you decide to swap in front disc brakes, I have a CAD file I can send you and you can send it a fabrication place to have the plate cut.

While you have the MC off, print this on 8.5x11 and use this to see the mounting holes are the same. If they are, my CAD file will work. I used 3/16 plate. It's held on by four bolts, and two studs, and the top two studs don't go through the firewall, the rest of the fasteners use factory mounting.

This is what it looks like mounted...
