metal dash swap

So i swapped metal dash out, now i try to install the filler piece below the steering column and it is to wide of an opening. the filler piece is too narrow. my guess is I could shim the dash where it bolts to cab to push it closer together....any good logic in this thinking.....anyone ever come across this?

When you say you swapped the metal dash out, you're talking about the whole structure? What year is your truck and what year dash structure did you swap in?

swapped a 81 whole metal structure into an 85 cab
