I learned these tricks a few years ago and have since used them on all my splicing on the truck. Solder really makes them bullet proof, plus I don't have to buy butt splices anymore lol

yeh it's pretty simple and have done something similar, just never tugged on it to tighten it up.

I hate butt splices except for maybe low voltage signals on a radio install. LOL I'm sure you've done it.....bought a vehicle and took the dash apart and saw more than 2 and looked down at the ground and thought "Damn it already, what the hell did I get into".

Never knew there was a term for it. It really is the only way for a good splice. But in tight places with too little of a wire, weaker joints have to do if application allowes it.
Proper crimping tool is another aspect of good connections. I did have to use a vise before crimping a 0.6" diameter coax style cable. We machined the crimping dies for it and vise was the only way to set it up and do a good crimp. It was a bit out of place dragging a giant vise around the building just install connectors on signal wire.
