Should know this but I guess old age is catching up. The light emitting wire connected to the back of the dash goes WHERE?

Thanks

Also in the older trucks, there was a wire that lit the windsheild washer switch

There's an lead with an LED (light emitting diode) that mounts with a small screw behind the speedometer. Not sure of it's purpose - speed monitoring for some reason. To my knowledge it is found only on 1987 & + models.:

Also, on trucks equipped with premium trim levels, there is a FOC (fiber optic cable).

It steals a fraction of the available lumens from one of the backlighting lamps. There is a special adapter that twist locks into the socket (upper RH corner - looking fwd).

It transfers that light over to the ashtray - and casts a glow on the cigarette lighter.

Thanks a ton. Do remember the 67-72 trucks it went to the gear selector. Will be looking at the ashtray when I get back to the shop.

I believe the VSS in the cluster started in 84', but only for Cruise Equipped trucks (it was used by the Cruise Control computer). In 1987, they used it to feed the ECM and Cruise computer.

Oh yeah, you told me that before - didn't stick.

84,85,86 used a speed sensor - but only if equipped with CC.

Model year 87+ all models and levels had the sensor - it was still used to provide speed input to the CC (but since it was already there) the engineers decided to use that same signal for the ECU/TBI group.
