What do you run, and how do you like it. Ive got a cobra 29 peaked and tuned with a wilson 1000 antenna ++++

My Cobra 29 doesn't seem happy, got it tied to a 900w 4' Firestik and a power mic hooked to it in my '79 K10 right now. It rode many years in my '77 offroading and I think it has had a rough way to go. Also have a Midland 5001Z, thinking I may have to put it in, wish it was the 9001Z though. Another I have is a Uniden 510XL. I like its compact size but wish I had the Bearcat PC78 Elite, it is styled more like the Cobra 29 LTD Classic and the 9001Z. Not very many people talk on them anymore but I like to have one on while driving the highway, sometimes get a heads-up for traffic or road conditions ahead. And I like to let drivers know when the DOT bears are around, if they got a tail light out, if they need over in my lane, etc. Used to hear some wild **** back in the day when there was a lot of people on them.

They do have there uses still. I use mine Mostly 4 wheeling but ill turn it on driving to see whats going on ahead a me and speed traps and such. I just had to take mine in and have the mike connection fixed it solder came loose and was cuttin in out. Should get it back in a few days. Any one have experience with messanger 400 linear amp.

Just started installing a Uniden 510XL in my 95 Suburban. Using some 12" antenna off eBay. Can't seem to get the SWR down even though I have shortened the antenna as much as possible. Might try a really old Turner Sound Kicker 48" antenna somebody gave me and see if that does any better.

Just started installing a Uniden 510XL in my 95 Suburban. Using some 12" antenna off eBay. Can't seem to get the SWR down even though I have shortened the antenna as much as possible. Might try a really old Turner Sound Kicker 48" antenna somebody gave me and see if that does any better.

I had a 510XL at one time. I had the audio limiter clipped and the dead key turned up. With a 5' connection 500 antenna and a A-static power mic that thing was loud for a wee lil' radio

A 12" antenna on CB is way too short and will perform badly even if you get the SWR's down. A 1/4 wave whip is 108" long....

I think that's the same unit I put in my crew cab. It was my dad's, I think it's at least 30 years old.
