I've got a stupid one for you...

Truck is an 86 c10 with the 4.3 v6, standard trans. Picked up the truck a few weeks back.

New battery, new terminal clamps, known good used alternator.

Alternator is not charging, connections seem to be good and clean.

So from past experience, I went in search of a charging lamp bulb on the dash, because I know on a lot of older vehicles this can cause such an issue. I was pretty sure about this, because I don't get a battery/charge/gen light when I turn the ignition on.
So I go and take the cluster surround off, and start searching for where this lamp might be.... and I cannot find it. So am I looking for something that isn't there?! There's a volt meter in the top left, which does seem to work.

Any ideas?

Connect the charging wire on the alternator directly to the positive on the battery. And the voltage sensing wire to the charging post on the alternator.

Exactly. It's the best route. Have you had the alternator tested to insure it is good? If not that's the next step or first one... Up to you.

Sent from the dust in front of you!
