I have a tailgate band from a 73-80 Jimmy that I want to sell and have no idea what to ask for it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don’t know about the Jimmy, but for the pickups the tailgates and the center panel changed significantly from 73-80. You may have to revise your listing and figure out the exact year of your panel.

The original tailgate on my ‘75 K25 had the embossed GMC logo centered on the bare tailgate. The bright trim panel is much narrower (top to bottom) and the GMC logo is also centered. The inset in the ‘75 metal tailgate is too narrow to fit the panel in your picture. Later tailgates have a wider inset (to fit the panel in your picture), GMC is offset to one side, and the equivalent Chevrolet panel has the name offset to the other side.

I think Huck is on point with his valuation.

I do find that trim, even perfect trim, is hard to sell for these trucks. Lots of beautiful modded trucks being built, but not a lot of people truly restoring squares. I had a perfect 73-80 tailgate band listed for a $100(LMC repro is $200) and never got a single call. I list some sheet metal and get lots of calls. I have a few misc NOS 73-80 trim still in GM packaging and haven't had a single call in a year.

K5's were always the large style. The tailgates also don't have the deep depression like the pickups do.

As for the pickups, the wide and narrow tailgate bands were used in the same years and they fit the same tailgates. Starting in '81, they all got a wide band in a different style and the depression in the tailgate changed. The 70's bands do not fot the '81-up tailgates.

The new ones are 400 450 and look cheap. I stripped the anodizing off, sanded and polished my 78 k5 band. It looks really good. If there are not dents or deep scratches I would go a few hundred unless you just want it gone, wait for the right buyer. They Don't make them anymore.
