I added a wiper timer this week, and now have intermittent wipers!
I used a cheap little wiper timer off Amazon, it's a Maxx Tronic, and there's a guy on eBay who 3d prints an enclosure for it with a knob.
Looking at the reviews, I agreed that contrary to the instructions, I should use it to drive a relay to actuate the wipers rather than put that much current through the traces on the card...
I also removed the potentiometer and mounted it below and to the left of my headlight switch. (Both holes were from PO mods)

The timer effectively bypasses the "off" position for the wiper switch. When you turn the knob on, it's adjustable from 3-30 seconds.
With the lack of availability of intermittent modules for the 1978 models, I'm pretty happy to have found a way to add them with a relatively clean install for under $50.
