Went out this morning to start my truck, put the key in and the ignition wouldn’t turn. It’s in park and didn’t do anything to the column. It was fine Saturday when I drove it to work and back home. Didn’t mess with it at all yesterday but today the ignition is stuck. Any ideas or fixes is greatly appreciated

Could be a lot of things. Tumbler/key wear, depending on tilt or not rack broke, ignition switch. Really just need to pull steering wheel, remove lock and see if the gear turns behind the lock. My guess would be lock and key.

It’s just weird to me that it was fine one day, didn’t have any issues and this morning it happened, it is a tilt column but I haven’t ever changed it since I got it

When you locate what is broke it might answer that question. There is a pot metal piece inside the tilt assembly that commonly breaks. If you have to get deep enough check the bolts at the base. Most of the time they are either loose or not tight enough.

A broken ignition rack usually gives some play in the ignition/key still, right? I've had one break, but I've never heard of one breaking and instantly jamming up the cylinder.

Could the shift linkage be worn out enough that the the ignition switch doesn't recognize that the trans is in park?

Personally, I'd try jacking around on the column shifter for a little while before ripping the column apart. Not as a fix, but a diagnostic effort.

I'm having same issue. I did some investigating and found that this piece is out of place. Not sure what it's called. Trying to figure my next step. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Alex

Have you tried turning the steering wheel back and forth as you turn the key? I had mine lock up on me when the wheels were hard over. Never happened since.

I found that the ignition sector is broke. I have the piece on order.
Thank you @Jgonick
