Hood Ornament Template

I was at the PAP junkyard this weekend and was nabbing some stuff off an 86 Custom Deluxe and it had a Hood ornament that was in good shape so I brought it with me and want to put it on mine which doesn't have a hood ornament originally.

Would anyone who has one be willing to make me a template so I don't F up my hood with a bunch of holes. I googled around a little but didn't find much.

What is the deal with the hood ornamnets? Were they factory options? My 81 Silverado does not have one, but an 85 C10 down the street from me does. Just curious.

Ya they are factory all 6.2 diesels had one and then the others I think just say GMC or Chevrolet and they were optional depending on trim packages selected

I personally don't like them but that's just me

Interesting. Good to know. I am not a fan either, but since I am new to GM products.....inquiring minds. Thanks for the response!

Sorry I didn't have a tape measure handy. But while I was changing a fender I took a few snapshots of a hood that once had an emblem on it.

The backside of the hood should have an access hole for the retaining nut, so that will tell you where it goes.
