Been a car guy most of my life mostly drag racing. I saw a 86 c20 nearby with a blown motor, no bed, and a stick. I had to have it. The owner had a stepside bed in his yard I wrangled into the deal. As far as cutting the frame and shortening it that's a no brainer for me. I have the knowledge and skills. I'm putting together a high compression 350 that should be good for 400 at the crank.
Where I differ is the suspention and rear. I usually go with a 9" but I want to keep the 14 bolt and 8 lug pattern. Ideally I would like to bring the truck down maybe 3 inches. It's going to be a cruiser. I'd also like to get a locker in that 14 bolt. Any links would be helpful. This is my budget friendly probably summer daily.

I'm not a ford fan but just like ford owners their rears take a hard pounding
True but the 14 bolt (10.5" full floater) is still better.
