I'm trying to find out if my engine is really a 350 or 305. Previous owner said it's a 350 and I think it is, based on the sound and the power. I searched the web and found where the code is in front of the passenger side head. The codes are V0610THW CF194828. Can anyone help me ID this? I have no idea at all what the second set of numbers is. The first one I believe is v-plant name, 0610- June tenth. I can't find THW anywhere... Thanks

Need to look at the block casting number right behind the driver side cylinder head, right above the bellhousing. That will tell you if you have a 305 or 350 (or something else).

I've bought things that were a 305 that were supposed to be a 350, but also bought them the other way around too. Both can have the same sound.

I thought that was the casting number I found in front of the passenger cylinder head. I'll look above the bell housing on the drivers side too. Thanks

Yea, Bucket is correct. Those numbers you are talking about are stamped but the block numbers will be casted into the block where he discribed.

The numbers behind the alternator aren't useless but they aren't always that accurate or information maybe missing. For example with my truck the numbers behind the alternator made it out to be a 305 but when I tore into the truck it is a 350 and the number behind the drivers head also showed it was a 350.
