Headers and stock exhaust?

Do shorty headers require replacing the rest of the exhaust, or can I keep a 2-->1 stock exhaust and use headers. Its for a specific situation, so Im not asking opinion about the setup, just if it will all fit together correctly. '83 C30

You may have to modify the Y pipe to get it to line up with the headers but it's certainly possible to run shorties to a Y and single exhaust.

Actually shorty headers need a big cam... high rpm power.
