Dumb question, but i picked up a tack cluster out of a 74 k20 with a amp guage.
And im wanting to put it in my non tach 76k10 with a volt guage.

I have 2 Questions.
1. Is the pinout of my 76 cluster the same as this 74 cluster?(BTW, i got the 74 plug with about 6" of wire)

2. Can i replace the Amp meter with my Volt meter, since my pin out on my truck is pinned for a volt meter? Or is the printed circuit printed differently for an amp gauge.

Any help would be nice.

I can't say about the volts/amp swap, but year for year, a tach cluster goes right in place of a regular cluster. So all you really need to focus on is swapping to an amp gauge.

Thanks to retros diagrams, it looks like the amp guage and volt guage both trace back to the same point on the plug, so i should have no problem putthing my volt guage in.

Now to go back to the diagrams and look at plug wire patterns, and make sure the colors match up.

Never mind. I'm thinking wrong, you're going from a 1974 cluster in to a 1976 truck. But I do think it's a little more involved. I don't want you to burn your truck down.

I need to look further in to this. Hang on.

Probably the best thing is to replace the ammeter with the voltmeter and just extend the wire with ring terminals directly to the voltmeter after taking out the metal clips. The 1976 cluster likely has more warning lights in it too, but I doubt you'll care about that since I think it's just seat belt.

I have 0 Warning lights. Not even a 4x4 light lol. Base model truck.

You should have a brake warning light. It might be burned out or disconnected.

I was under the impression that the wiring through out the whole truck is intended for an ammeter or voltmeter respectively, is this correct or no? Seems like most things I read say the gauges are gathering a different type of signal for the respective method. Admittedly, what where and how are out of my realm of knowledge. I do know if you do it wrong you can start your truck on fire as Retro said. Please do a lot of research before doing this "simple" swap, I don't want you to BBQ your truck that you are putting a lot of work into. That would suck.

The truck is a volt meter truck, im just wandering if i can put my volt meter in the new guages. In the wiring diagrams, it shows them both feed from the same 2 points, so i dont see why is wont work.

And yea, i dont want my truck on fire. Especially when i have a date this weekend, thatd be bad.....

Did you ever get this sorted out? I have been messing with my tach cluster a little lately and visited a page with some good info. It mentioned to make sure you use the correct circuit for your year and options. That means you need to get a printed circuit for a 76 with tach. With this printed circuit you should be able to swap out the ammeter for the voltmeter no problem. You will need to research the pin-outs to make they are in the correct locations on the plug also.
