Been one major chore finding Oem parts for a 1954 orphan truck ...

Was needing some body clips for the inner fenders ... IH had their own gig going on in that department ..

What came off the truck wasn't in the best of shape ...
71 years took it's toll on the critters ...
Called a bunch of companies with no luck finding these Bad-Boys, until ...

Oh no !!

Just might be changing horses in the middle of the creek ...

I found a 2003 L-18 Gen VII 496 ci 8.1L big block ..

This is going to require a lot of thought ..
Nothing from the old school Mark IV's (1965 to 1990) interchanges !

If you go on www.gmt400.com there are many threads there on the 8.1, and many members have them in their trucks. They ain't cheap though, but will seriously pull a house....

I'm sure there are several members here who have been following your build and would be happy to take it off your hands ....

JMO, I'd stay the course with the old stroker motor. It belongs in the old truck, over the modern 8.1.
plus he already built it.

The 8.1 is great but its got less support and its currently stock. STock is good tho, but not built 454

Got a world of meat to come out of the valve bowls to fit the oversize valves ..

These heads will be going on the stroker 454 (496CI) Mark IV motor build ..

This is not the 454" motor that's on the motor stand .. The motor that is on the stand is a 2-bolt block main with peanut port heads ..
The block in the above photo is a 4-bolt and has been punch .060" over ..

Those heads that's on the block are the ones I'm in the middle of working on .. They are 781 casting large oval port GM heads ..

Ya'll talked me into keeping the Mark IV ..
Thanks to all that helped to point me in the right direction ..

Did go after the Gen VII motor, still on the trailer at the moment along with a Gen VI 454 ci ... (It was lonely)
Not all that sure what I'm going to be doing with them ??
Will take them apart for a inspection just to see what I bought ..

Photos soon to follow ..

Coming together though

Since the Rat motor will soon be taking the place of the Mouse motor, I'm going to get busy pulling it ..

Kind of needing the room to do a good job on painting the firewall ..

For the time being the 2-bolt main 1988 Motorhome 454" will be going in ..

The 4-bolt main 496" stroker is nowhere close to being built cause of big bucks parts are needed to finish the build ..
In time it'll be going in the truck ...

Well, it's not me going off the deep end this time ...

Here's what's going down ..
Sold my bare 4-bolt block in order to buy tools to work the 781 heads ..
Really didn't want to do that but I'll find another Mark IV down the road a piece ..

The fellow that bought it wants me to finish building it, going in a 60 Chevy pickup ..
Going full custom with his truck ..
Said he's going to have a supercharger sticking out of the hood ... Eek !!

I started looking for a rotaking crank assembly cause I don't have parts on hand to build one up ..
About $1,500 would get a cast crank, I-Beam 4340 rods, forged pistons, rings and bearings ..

All of that went out the window now that it's going to be blown .. !!
In order for the motor to stay together under boost some really good hi-end parts needs to be used ..

Right in the mist of talks on how to build the motor up ..

Sumthin on this order ....

Edit; Due to the cost to building up the short block for forced induction, he decided to go back to plan A .. No blower is in the picture, maybe a tunnel ram ..

He'll still have something to look at sticking out of the hood ..
