Personally I like the Ultra Black RTV, not to be confused with the regular black RTV. I also stick the manifold right on after applying the RTV, never any issues.

If using a higher quality gasket with a bead stamped into it, install it dry. If it's just a cheap flat paper gasket, applying Indian Head Gasket Shellac does wonders.

Use the regular stuff, I think the spray is more for flat gaskets, like water pump and thermostat...which i dont use anything on myself. I use the Grey RTV for the intake manifold ends.
I wish I wasnt 80 miles away, i would come play wrenches with ya.

cool, ill pick some grey rtv up tomorrow, ive got the weekend off so hopefully i get the transfercase and intake done, my list is getting shorter! looking forward to firing this thing up!
thanks
... yeah that'd be cool if you were close, none of my friends around here ever want to help or learn, they say they do but when it comes down to it, they are ''busy'' lol

I tore down the old 350 today, pulled the alternator, air pump, carb, distributor, unbolted the valve covers...damn those intake bolts are a PITA, front ones came out real easy but the mids and backs are being a btch, ill have to leave it till morning.
its been a while since i tore one down this far but it needs to be refreshed right? got to at least have it look clean.

I picked up an edelbrock performer for 40 off CL, good reason to break out the wrenches... last truck i ran an edelbrock performer intake with a holley double pumper...summit cam and headers, thing ran hard!

What carb and intake setup are you using? how about some motor pics?

No Comp cam, mild RV thumper cam. That will be changing here soon, just bought a set of Dart Heads, going to go with something that has a bit more bump to it, not sure yet on what size, will talk to my mechanist and see what he has to say.

Just had a bad thought about the intake I put on today... Im pretty sure I only put one side of manifold heat restricters in, I'm pretty sure the one the the drivers side is on the bench.

Ok so it'll run the same with one heat restrictor on and one off? Should just slow the flow right? Please don't make me dO it over!

I wouldnt worry about it.....wont make a difference with or without. But since you dont have EGR, spend some time on getting your timing right, you may end up running a little less than stock.
How do you pass emissions on that truck?
