I’m have my front diff set up with a pair of set up bearings I made up. It’s a 10-bolt 8.5”. I have the backlash at .007. Please take a look at my gear pattern and give me your thoughts or recommendations. Thanks

If anything the pinion is a tiny bit too deep in the ring gear. It's always hard to tell from pic though. Looks good!

Thousandths. I wouldnt worry about it really. Just for the next one. I would check it after some good miles to see how it's doing. The more I look at it the less worrysome it looks.

Pinion not deep enough, move pinion in.

Pinion too deep, move out.

You do not want to move your pinion out. The drive side as shown, is the important pattern. Don't worry about the coast side. If anything you could move the pinion in, but your pattern is good. Ship it.

Looks pretty close, I'd recommend going to your final (for real) bearings with the current shim and recheck pattern. When I did my 12 bolt, I honed new bearings for setup and when I switched to final bearings the pattern did move, I believe I took about .003 more out and that corrected the pattern.

I'd also recommend finding someone with or purchasing one (they can be had reasonable these days) a clamshell type bearing puller if you do not already have one, they allow for pinion/carrier bearings to be removed without damaging the bearing by using the outer race to safely pull via the bearing cage.
