I need to pull both of the tanks in my 82. What is the best way to go about doing this? Drop the tanks down, or jack up the bed? Or? Any advice appreciated!

I would remove the bed. makes all the work on the tanks way easier. Its only some bolts, the wiring and the filler. just my 0.02$

Well, however you do this, it will be a snowball effect. Pulling something will identify a spot that needs attention then another then another.

Anyway, removing the bed is definitely easier, lifting/tilting the bed can be tricky and a back hurter. Dropping the tanks, if they are empty, isn't that bad it's just a lot of stretching the arms.

I bought two 20 gallon tanks to replace my rotting 16’s. I dropped the first one, it was unpleasant. I will be pulling the bed for the other. Even with the truck in the air and a tank jack it fought me a lot, wayyyyy more than it should have. Maybe I’m not as smart as I thought, but based on that experience I definitely think there will be less of a struggle pulling the other tank out with no bed in the way.

It is 100% easier without the bed on.
Even more so when reinstalling it and hooking up the fuel lines.

Just like everyone else has said bed off.

Even if you end up having to completely remove the tanks and carrier, for example you find unexpected rot in one of the tanks. It's way easier with the bed off.

I replaced both of mine, along with the straps, from underneath with the bed still in place. It wasn't that bad. If I had to do it again, I'd do it the same way
