So i had the problem of the fuel gauge reading way over full since the ground was bad. so i attached the ground to the tab on the sending unit and the gauge went to empty like it should. So I then put 5 gallons of gas in it and the gauge went back to over full. Has anyone heard of these sending units goin bad when gas is added like this? Was it supposed to attach to the tab sticking up from the top of the sending unit or is there a wire im not seeing coming from the plug out of the top? I was happy to see it work then upset when it didnt with gas in it lol. Also this is on a 87 drivers side tank.

That happens when the points are dirty where the rod rubs against.
