Any fuel door spring suggestions?

The fuel door on my 84 runs out of spring tension an inch before it reaches the truck. I know that's not a big deal but it will haunt me.

I've tried springs from LMC and Ebay. Same thing. I've tried flattening them in a vice. Bending them different ways. I've gently bent the oem arm that houses the spring. No luck.

I've spent SO much on this seemly simple task, I'm ready to have a meltdown.

I would replace the whole door but then it will need to be painted. Last resort.

Anyone run into this?

buy a door and install it, then figure out what the difference in yours is and get it corrected.

I threw mine away and bought a new one with the spring installed.
