Firewall repair

Im doing the usual cab corners rockers and kick panel on my 81 but i ran into a lot of rust on passenger side. What is a good recommendation other then a whole firewall panel for this?

Pieces of a firewall panel? What else could there possibly be.

Sectioning out pieces of a good or repop firewall would be best. That looks like it might be at the pinch near the trans tunnel and hand fabing some of those sections would be a pain.

Oh man, that sucks it's all right at that seam. I think I'd be replacing the whole firewall on that side at least. Is the other side the same?

That level of repair isn't one I'd try to do with the cab on the frame and engine in the truck.

For your first post, you knocked it out of the park with a doozy of a repair needed. You have some solid advice from some fabricators on here, pick your path and go for it.

Wow, the area will be tough to cobble up but not impossible.
Lets see, 18GA sheet metal, tin snips, a drill, rivet gun / rivets, body mallet, paintable seam sealer and a whole lotta patience.

I opted to remove the floor and replace the bad. It probably wasn't the smartest decision but it's the path I took.

I got started on my passenger side rockers and footwell today. I think im just gonna cut out the rot and fab a patch panel then weld it in. Probably not ideal but not impossible either. Figure ill drill out spot welds make the passenger side panel then make another patch for the center section. Ill post how it goes but gotta grab atleast a half sheet of 18 gauge 1st.

Really think im just gonna do passenger firewall then get her in my garage and pull motor and tranny to do center piece. Idk yet tho honestly already fabbed the connecting piece on the top of the floor pan and welded it to the floor pan but i can tell its gonna be a pita no matter what

Well finally got around to it since we having a winter storm got a couple days off.

I was going to suggest a replacement cab. Being in TX its not geographically prohibitive to find rust free square parts I’d think.

Thanks man hell im just a jack of all trades but im down for the cause willing to show or help others no reason to gatekeep anything we are all human and should at all times help the fellow man if nothing else let people see just because its nerve wracking or scary doesn't mean you shouldnt do it have faith in yourself nothing is impossible
