Engine starts ok, but immediately stops:

The pcv should rattle when you shake it. What kind or carb on what intake?

Quadrajet, originally off of a 305. Stock q-jet factory manifold.

Then, like mentioned before you may want to open that carb up, clean it and make sure all the passages are open.

UPDATE:

Finally running----i put the "junk" reman carb that came the engine back on and it started and kept running no problems.

Before you junk the Q-jet that wasn't supplying fuel to the engine, you might want to try it on a 350 intake again - and using the correct mounting gasket.
