Edelbrock build

Last night our K9 Officer friend was over to work with Kelly and Ranger and we got to discussing his new project, a 74 Ford truck that he bought a 460 to fix up and drop in. He mentioned he needed a carb and I told him I had a 1406 Edelbrock that has sat around in pieces (completely disassembled) for years that he could have. He’s getting me a kit for it and I’ll build it for him as he’s never worked on a carb.

Today I did a loose assembly to make sure all the parts were there and there were no surprises. Should be good to go once everything is cleaned and the rebuild kit is here. I figured I’d pop it on the Blazer when I was done just to make sure it was good to go.

Stock 1406 usually has quite lean jets and rods. You might have to get a Edelbrock tuning kit and richen it up for a 460. Also try swapping in higher vacuum rated springs if you find it has an off-idle or part throttle bog.

Exactly what I did!

Also realized I was missing the S link for the accelerator pump so getting one of those too. Tried to make one but wasn’t happy with the result.

Friend got his rebuild kit yesterday and gave it the wife at work so today I assembled everything and dropped it on the Blazer to check it out. Figured the Blazers 454 and his 460 should be pretty close. It fired right up the first attempt but the idle speed was too low and it died. Made an adjustment and it ran great, at least in Park, lol. I plan on tuning it once it’s on his 460, probably changing out the Step Up springs as it’s likely to have a stumble on acceleration as-is. But we’ll see.
