E brake light not on when engaged

When I turn over the engine the E brake light turns on. But once the engine is started .. with E-brake on ....the light goes out. I'm not much with electrical so any help would be appreciated

If your truck is a '73, there is no switch on the parking brake to light the light. It is only for the differential pressure of the braking system, i.e. half lost fluid.

My '78 doesn't have it either. I'm not sure what year it was finally added in the trucks.
